Fact: Your skin is the largest organ in the human body. Therefore, in my personal opinion, also one of the most critical things to tend to & take care of. It is often neglected, forgotten about and slept with last nights make-up on. On this fine Monday Motivation, I am here to tell you that it’s time to bring your skincare routine up-to-date and show it some love.
I have been trying a vast array of skincare products, probably over the last six months and have learned some do’s and don’ts & personal favorites. I wanted to share a few of those with you, along with skincare maintenance tips!
So by the looks of the these products, you can tell I have relatively dry skin (especially in these cold months to come). I’m assuming with the change of seasons a lot of you are experiencing some dryness as well! Morning and night I use this Origins face wash and it’s amazing. I’ve used this wash in particular for over a year and am very happy with it. The Moisture Surge by Clinique is smooth as butta! For those of you who need the hydration, but tend to get oily from a moisturizer, this product is great. It’s more of a gel and just glides right on your skin not leaving you greasy or oily feeling. The warming Honey Potion Mask by Farmacy was such a strange experience at first. Literally it is as thick (if not thicker) than honey. You are practically spreading this sticky substance on your face and trying to smooth it around for coverage. Then somehow it works and turns white to begin hydrating your skin. The warming sensation wasn’t too overwhelming either. Lastly, I gave this green Bamboo Waterlock mask a try and it was nice as well. Instead of the warming feeling, this was more of a cooling. It was very wet and cold to put on, but did the trick for helping with dry skin.
Now that I have shared with you a few of my current favorite products, I want to give you guys some tips on a good skincare routine that I use & incorporate into my life:
- Drink water! Hydration is key to keeping toxins flushed from your skin and maintaining that gorgeous glow we all want with no dry flakiness.
- Cleanse morning AND evening. Sooooo many people are under the impression you can only wash your face at night. Do it in the morning as well and you’ll notice the difference. Don’t believe me, just watch.
- Never, I mean ever. Ever, ever, ever go to bed with your makeup on. No matter how tired, how intoxicated or busy you may be. Find the time. You won’t regret it.
- Be sure to fit exfoliation into your routine. I’ve heard mixed thoughts on this. Some experts say weekly, some day not more often or less often than that. For me, I prefer to do it weekly. Find what is best for you to rid the dead skin cells.
- Clean your makeup brushes! They hold so much dirt, grime and bacteria from previous uses that it is super imperative you clean that ish off of there before they touch your pretty little face!
- Let your skin breathe! It’s healthy to go bare faced every now and then to let some fresh air hit your skin. Covering it all the time with lbs of product & makeup isn’t necessarily healthy.
- Moisturize. As I mentioned before, this time of year is challenging for my skin, but persistently hydrating your skin with a good moisturizer can bring it life again.
- Treat yourself to an occasional professional facial. Getting pampered makes me happy. So, why not pair relaxation with a beneficial purpose and be good to go? Plus, there are somethings an expert can help with…problem areas, acne, etc..
I urge you to take the time to put together a good skincare routine that correlates with your specifications! That’s exactly what it will take is time…because finding the products that are right for you is tricky, but definitely achievable. I’m still working a few kinks out myself. If anyone doesn’t have dry skin, most of these products offer opposing functions; i.e. for oily or combination skin. Don’t forget there are some things like hormones or stress that a product at times just can not fix. That is when you have to work on those factors outside of finding a good skincare routine.
